Updates in the Recent Years Since this Article
Three years have passed since this article was printed, and Fr. Athanasius continues to serve tirelessly.
A chapel for St. Abraam has been added to St. Mary's Church in Kitchener. Another property neighbouring the church has also been purchased.
St. Philopater's Church in Guelph now has a building and a full time priest, Fr. Youhanna Ghaly Youssef.

Fr. Athanasius continues to work on translation. He has translated the Psalms of the Agpeya from the Coptic. He is currently working on translating the Prophecies of Holy Pascha Week and Great Lent from the Coptic. The Old Testament used by the Church is the Septuagint, however no good manuscripts of the Septuagint have survived. The Coptic Bible is an early translation from the Septuagint, and Fr. Athanasius compares the Coptic to the Septuagint in order to reconstruct the earlier form of the Septuagint, as used by the Church Fathers. He also compares patristic Scriptural quotes. This important work allows us to read the same Bible that the Church Fathers read, and understand it as they did.
While continuing this important and time consuming scholarly work, Fr. Athanasius never neglects to care for his church, with theologically deep sermons, and weekly Bible studies that are spiritual, comprehensive, and challenging. He never fails to make time for anyone who needs his help, despite the large amount of work he does. We pray that God may keep him for us for many years, and that He send him much needed help.
